adventures in eating

university cafe, palo alto, ca

I found myself in Palo Alto twice this weekend. Round 1 was dinner at University Cafe which was surprisingly good. We ordered bruschetta to start but ended up devouring the bread plus roasted pepper sauce that they brought to the table. The bread was crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. Paired with the dipping sauce it hit the spot.

The bruschetta fell flat. It was one giant slice of bread with the traditional tomato and basil. On top of that was a hunk of melted mozzarella. Sounds like a good idea but texture wise was not so good. I think the dish didn’t make it to our table in time so the mozzarella, while melted, did not have any stretch and was kinda cold.

I got the prawns in a light chardonnay cream sauce. It had the tastiest sundried tomatoes, well cooked pasta, slivers of basil, and big ol’ tiger prawns. I would def order this again. The portions are very generous.

I topped off dinner with hard peach cider which was yuuuum.  4****
