jumbo seafood, singapore

You know the Jumbo Floating Restaurant in Hong Kong? Yah this is not that one.

[Side Note: I’m watching Top Chef and Spike has a new, janky, plaid hat which is just as ugly as his other hats. Gross.]

Anyway, back to the Jumbo. First off, if you decide to take a trip here keep in mind that there are not 1 but 2 Jumbo’s at Clarke Quay. One of them is near the MRT stop/mall and the other is on the same side but the farther end of the Quay (pronounced KEY not kway). The MRT stop one has a nicer view but the farther one (the one we ate at) was a little more comfortable since they have ceiling fans for the outside tables. If I haven’t mentioned it already, it is friggin’ HOT in Singapore. Like, really HOT.

This was an unexpected goodie. Mushrooms with tofu that has been infused with nori. The nori adds a little bit of texture and saltiness and the tofu behaves good as always.

Underneath all of that mess is shrimp. On top? Crushed cereal. This was actually ok but the crushed cereal was way too sweet which made the entire dish too sweet. Ok tasting but better after you scraped off all of the excess cereal. You don’t need Cap’n Crunch with your shrimp.

This was the real reason we came to Jumbo. Singapore’s famous chili crab. Looks good. Tastes like hot ketchup. Pass.

Can you tell that we ordered too much food? Mee goreng is fried noodles. We got it veggie style but they still added chicken. This was slightly ketchupy but not as much as the chili crab. Lots of veggies and slightly spicy.

This took forever to come out – BBQ Tilapia. Yum. I think I would have liked this more if I wasn’t so freakin full already. Very tender, salty and garlicky.

Overall, a mediocre meal at Jumbo and we were pretty disappointed at the chili crab. Perhaps there’s another restaurant that we should try it at? Preferably one that doesn’t make it so ketchupy? 3***
