adventures in eating

one bánh for the road

Have you ever been more confused by a plate of food in your entire life? There is a lot going on here. This food is a speciality of Hue in central Vietnam.

This is the last of the HCMC series. Bánh, bánh and more bánh!

See? Told ya. All bánh all the time. A lot of them start off like this. Tightly wrapped in banana leaves prepared in all manner of ways.

This one is glutinous rice cake with fried shrimp bits.

This was a fried rice cake with a shrimp embedded into it and then a soft steamed rice cake attached at the bottom.

My favorite was this grilled pork roll. Behind it is a slice of mystery pork meat kinda like what they put in your Vietnamese sandwich. Below it is another steamed rice cake. The entire bowl, by the way, is swimming in a mild fish sauce.

Not my most favorite Vietnamese meal ever but nice to try all the different things they had on offer. I def wouldn’t turn it down if it came my way again.
