nutrition house/five loaves & two fish

with 2 comments

Sigh, finally all fresh and clean after a long day at work. I teed up a bunch of new posts for the next few days. Lots of frozen yogurt, HK reminiscing, and LA adventures to come…

Yah dude I know the title is a bit weird. The English name for this place is Nutrition House. The Chinese written on the marquee is apparently ‘Five Loaves & Two Fish’. Psh that totally makes sense.

I ended up at this place after an odd run to Gamba Karaoke this past Sunday. Side note: I don’t know why people karaoke anywhere else. Gamba seriously rules. Anyway, back to the food. I had never been before even though it’s in my friendly neighborhood Ranch 99 shopping complex. This place is open until 2am which is perfect for late night munchies. Even though it was midnight on a Sunday there were plenty of folks around (and not the rowdy kind that hangs out at Quickly).

another yuet lee night

I’ve mentioned Yuet Lee before because it’s my SF equivalent to Big Tomy’s in LA. The cuisine is not the same but evenings (or should I say early mornings?) I’ve spent at these two establishments are nightcaps to fun evenings spent with good friends.  My Bay Area homies love this place. To be honest, my first few trips were okay at best. I dunno if we’re ordering better food or if I’m getting accustomed to the taste but our most recent meal was way past okay into really, really good.

We started with beef tomato soup. Yay for eggs in soup. Boo for it tasting like ketchup soup. Next, please.

Everyone has one of these. That place they go to after a night out on the town. Generally, you don’t visit these places unless you (or your friends) have been drinking a bit and it’s sometime in the middle of the night already. For the Bay Area homies, it’s Yuet Lee. For my LA homies, it’s good ol’ Big Tomy’s.
